‘Baby Fat’ Doesn’t Go Away

Contrary to popular belief, children don’t naturally outgrow chubbiness, according to new government research. The study found that youngsters who were overweight in their preschool years were five times more likely to be overweight at age 12. “If you have a chubby toddler, a healthier diet and more exercise can make a major difference in her future,” says pediatrician Jarret Patton, M.D., of Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network.

Many Drugs Going Generic

If you’re taking a brand-name drug, ask your doctor or pharmacist if it’s available as a lower-cost generic. This year, the patents have expired on several major drugs, including Zocor for cholesterol and Zoloft for depression. This opens the door for generic copies that can save you up to half the cost.
